Talon FAST™ Product Requirements

Talon's FAST™ software can be deployed on customers' existing hardware infrastructure in virtually every case, as long as they meet a few base-level requirements. There's no need to upgrade hardware before beginning to utilize FAST™.

Physical/Virtual Deployments

Hardware Requirements

  • Processor: 4 (v)CPU
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Networking: Redundant 1Gbps NIC (Teamed) or VMXNet3 in Vmware
  • Cache Disk: 7200 RPM SATA HDD, 10K+ SAS or SSD
  • Storage Controller: RAID controller with write-back caching functionality enabled

Software Requirements

  • Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019
  • C:\ 250GB (System/Boot Volume)
  • D:\ 1TB* (Separate Data Volume for FAST™ Intelligent File Cache)

* Depending on customer needs, the Cache Volume (D:) on an Edge installation can be extended is only restricted by the limitations of the Windows NTFS file system. Correct sizing of the Cache Volume is important: recommended size for the Cache is 2x the active data set (purging)

Virtualization Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 / Windows Server 2016 (Hyper-V) / Windows Server 2019
  • VMWare vSphere ESX(i) 5.5+, 6.x
  • CPU Cycles must be pre-allocated, set as Reserved / Static
  • Memory has to guaranteed, set as Reserved / Static
  • Hard Disks must be configured as “Thick Provisioned Eager Zeroed” or "Fixed Disk"

Cloud Deployments (i.e. Microsoft Azure or Amazon AWS)

For best performance in public cloud environments, the following requirements must be met when deploying Talon FAST™ software in the cloud:

Virtual Machine Type Standard A/D Series (i.e. Standard_D4s_v3)
Minimum: 4 vCPU Cores/16GB RAM
