How FAST™ & Amazon AWS Work Together

You choose the AWS software-defined storage configuration and data management tools that suit you best. Through the FAST™ fabric, you then extend those cloud-resident file shares to branches all over the globe.

Amazon AWS Hybrid Cloud Storage

Amazon AWS Full Cloud EC2/EBS Storage

You can use AWS-resident file shares, EC2/EBS, SoftNAS Cloud NAS, NetApp ONTAP Cloud, Amazon Storage Gateway (Hybrid Cloud), or alternative solutions. Each of these solutions presents SMB shares to a co-resident FAST™ core instance, which you deploy in an EC2 VM in AWS. The core instance then extends centralized file shares transparently to all branch locations running an authorized FAST™ edge instance.

The FAST™ Fabric Edge Instance
At each authorized branch, you run a FAST™ instance, which is a virtual appliance configured as an edge. These edge instances run on Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2016, creating an intelligent file caching partition that retains the data you most often use at the branch. The edge instance also provides file-level differencing and outstanding local performance for users while enabling you to realize the cost savings of a centralized unstructured data storage model.
